Making a Difference in the Life of a Child.
Haitian Children

"Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, the poor and powerless, you do to me" (Mt. 25,40).

About the Foundation

The mission of the Foundation is to support the Maison Fortuné Orphanage in Hinche, Haiti. The Foundation, a 501(c) (3) IRS-approved charity, is committed to the long-term viability of the orphanage through financial support, outreach to the public, encouraging visits, promoting child-sponsorship, and sharing information about the orphanage.  We are people working together to make a difference in the lives of children by providing food, clothing, shelter, education and healthcare to 200+ children in Hinche, Haiti, one of the poorest regions in the Western Hemisphere.

Maison Fortuné Orphanage Foundation is a Virginia nonprofit, nonstock corporation that received its certificate of incorporation from the Virginia State Corporation Commission on December 19, 2001.  The organization, a part of the Diocese of Richmond with the Bishop as the sole member, was created by concerned individuals from these Catholic organizations:

  • Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Chesapeake, Virginia
  • Catholic Church of St. Mark, Virginia Beach, Virginia
  • St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, Chesapeake, Virginia
  • St. Thérèse Catholic Church, Chesapeake, Virginia
  • (since 2008) Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School, Virginia Beach.

Its original stated purpose was “to provide assistance for needy orphan children located in the nation of Haiti” and the focus was specifically on the Maison Fortuné Orphanage in Hinche as the means of providing the child care assistance the founders had in mind.

The mission of the Foundation is the support of the orphanage in three areas:

Operating Budget (day-to-day expenses of Maison Fortuné: currently over $360,000 a year).
Capital Budget (funds needed for construction and major upkeep expenses)
Endowment Fund (currently we are in a five-year campaign to raise $5,000,000 by 2015, which we hope will provide for the foreseeable future the bulk of the operating expenses of Maison Fortuné).
